Art Photography

The series 'Sides My Blues' was my final thesis for Pekka Halonen Academy. Later it continued with series 'My Island'. Shot with a medium format camera on Kodak Portra film.

Photographing these series was an escape from reality, as if I were blowing a bubble around myself. I wanted my photos to create balance and harmony through nature, my biggest inspiration. A connection with the surrounding nature's beauty drowns one’s worries and despair, yet for many people today the closest contact with a tree happens while holding an ice cream stick.

My little sister and my dog Rebel were the models. Rebel’s calm, philosophical nature has been an important source of support and grounding in my life. Through my sister the familiar melancholy that is part of a 15-year-old’s life was captured in the images. The states of being of animals and humans are very similar, they reflect each other. Animals are often more humane than humans, who destroy, kill, and create chaos as they destroy the Earth.

With my photographs, I wanted to evoke dreamlike emotions, moments from the future, the past, and my own reality. Love breeds love, hate breeds hate, and hope breeds hope.
