Life on the Road

Back in 2012 I packed all my belongings into an old van and hit the road with my dog Rebel. I'm now living full-time in my second self build van and traveling around Europe with my rescue dogs Chaos and Kaino.

Jagannath
2012-2017

My first van Jagannath took me across the Balkans and we spent two winters in southern Spain and Portugal. I wasn't living in my van full-time yet, and mostly traveled 6 months of the year, (the first year being an exception when I was on the road for the whole year). Jagannath was super simple and only had a bed inside with a portable gas cooker. No insulation, just bare metal as walls and ceiling. When it was raining or very cold outside condensation would form on the ceiling and drip on me. In 2013 little Chaos joined us, when I found her in a small town in Spain.

At this time I wasn't traveling so much alone yet and the people in the photos are my friends who joined me on the road at different times. Jagannath never had a breakdown and the only reason I eventually let him go was that I wanted a hightop van where I could stand up in. I called him my Hobbit van! It took me to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

Kiito
2017
Then came Kiito, a hightop van that I could stand straight in! This time I wanted to build it properly. It's well insulated and mostly build of recycled wood. It has a solar panel on the roof and in autumn 2019 I finally got a diesel heater installed after all those years of barely feeling my toes. Later on I also painted it green with a roller to blend in better with the scenery. Kiito has now taken me to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.
